Ok then. We left home at 6AM this morning, having loaded almost everything last night, and took the new Bunbury Highway extension down to Pinjarra. Once there, we played "dodge the rainstorm", until we had the boats rigged. This took a while - as you can see:
Around 8:30, M&S arrived, and we set off. The boat ramp at Pinjarra is rather steep - so it was kind of interesting getting down it:
If you have looked at the tracker page, you will have noticed a number of gaps in the track record. This was due to us being in between steep, high banks, and the tracker not being able to see the satellites. Here's an example
Another side effect of this, and extensive cow paddocks, is thick sticky mud on the banks, so when we stopped for breaks, it was often ... tricky to get out of the boats and onto shore. Actually, sometimes even lifting your foot could be a major adventure! There were certain injuries sustained as a result. See the summary further down!
M&S, as I said in my earlier post, have hired a tandem Hobie, called an Outfitter. Here they are, cruising along:
Tomorrow, they get to play with a red one, due to the rudder lift and a seat strap clip failing on this one.
After we checked in at Ravenswood, some 17km downstream, we vegged for a while, until the restaurant opened. And boy, was I surprised! On the menu the were items listed as GF (gluten free), DF (dairy free), and the chef was properly on the ball about everything to do with special diets! What a contrast to the Clansman further downstream! On top of that, the food itself was pretty damned good! The waitress even had our table marked on her chart as having a coeliac on it!
To finish up, here's a shot of Leece:
Oh, I promised a list of injuries: Day 1 - 1 rudder lifter, 1 seat strap clip, 3 severely sprained dignities from the mud, and three small ankle abrasions from sand in our crocs as we unpacked.
Bed time now, though. Only 7-10 km tomorrow - we should be moving by 10am, so watch for the tracker from about 9.
