Last weekend Jocelyn kindly brought her copy of the Settlers of Catan card game down to Narrogin to the games weekend and I played it for the first time.
The idea behind the game seems to be a 2 player version of the very popular board game, played using cards.
The elements and types of actions available seem to be a mix of Settlers and the Cities and Knights of Catan with a couple of new twists. So there are some quite amusing and evil cards you can play on each other. Successful play requires a fairly good memory as you pay resources to look through the five piles of development cards to see what is coming up and draw from the more useful piles of development cards correspondingly.
Don't be fooled by the title as to how big the game is, it takes up just as much table space and time as the original Settlers if not more.
The game is fairly fun, and my biggest criticism would be that as a two player game there is no mechanism to rein in a player who is galloping ahead, barr better or lucky game play.
I would rate it a 7/10, held back only by the natural limitations of a two player game.
