Well, work had the Christmas do tonight. At Burswood Function Centre. Parking (for once) was straightforward, and quite cheap ($3 for the evening), but we all know where they really get their money back, don't we?
The food was ... average. Individual entree plates of salami, califonia roll, and olives, were followed by a two course buffet. Most items were either flat, or faux creative - like the Spinach Gnocchi with Pumpkin Sauce and Roasted Garlic (more like Spinach Gnocchi in Pea Soup). The Fillet of Beef was excellent, and the Lemon Peppered Salmon with Citrus Butter Sauce got good comments at our table, as did the Honey/Soy Chicken - although the Roasted Capsicum Compote with Sesame Seeds that it was to be served on was nowhere in evidence. And there were many other disappointments. For example, the Sliced Gourmet Meats with Condiments was a mix of rather ordinary mortadellas and salamis, with nothing that I would call a cold meat condiment in sight!
Dessert was a slight improvement, with the cheese platter being a highlight, with its Australian selection being quite novel - as evidenced by a very nice hard blue. The Mini Lemon Merangue Pies were also quite good.
The buffet calls were well timed, and we were not kept waiting hours for food. The table service, however was atrocious, with requests for drinks and other items having to be made multiple times, and often arriving too late - or not at all. The only exception to this was when coffee was being served. This arrived very promptly, and refills happend without us noticing!
Overall, not worth the approx $90/head charged. 4/10, and a colourised re-run of a classic on the Sid and Nancy scale.
I concur with Rob. The fillet was outstanding. However, the gravy/jus did not arrive until I went up for seconds, which was very disappointing in hindsight. Yes the salmon was great, but the price overall was 3 times the maximum I would have paid. stevie
