We just have! The City of Ember is a great diesel-electropunk film. It is really a buried treasure and it's fading rapidly from the screen - 9.30am sessions only at Innaloo Megaplex until the 31st.
If you like Art Deco and German Expressionism and great engines then the backgrounds are worth the price of admission alone.
The lead actors are very good, especially Saorise Ronan as Lina Mayfleet. One scene that really got me as the newly appointed Messenger reports for duty (Messages are delivered orally in Ember) was the fading surrounds of the old telephone exchange, long since out of commission and forgotten. And the echoes of the past in the uniforms...they've evolved with the centuries, but the echoes are there.
This is really good movie and I'd like to see it again if anyone wants to go.
From IMDB "For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember's once powerful generator is failing ... and the great lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker. Now, two teenagers in a race against time, must search Ember for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of the city's existence, and help the citizens escape before the lights go out forever. Written by Fox Walden "
It was really well done and original.
9/10 and Stardust meeting Municipal Darwinism on the Sid and Nancy scale.
