I don't normally read horror, but I've usually liked Stephen's stories so I picked this up at Conflux* and read the stories over the last couple of days.
Very, very, good. As usual, Stephen is subtle and sometimes the true horror doesn't hit until the punchline or after you've had a bit of time to think about it.
There are a couple of editions out, I think I got the original cover (blue), but both looked good.
Get this if you can, highly recommended.
*Its so nice to be able to buy stuff in a dealer's room without worrying about getting it home. Maybe I should start carrying empty luggage to insterstate cons in future...
If you cannot see the causal relationship between "I have chocolate" and "Life is Good", you simply aren't trying hard enough. Pirates of the Burley Griffin
In case it wasn't clear this is a short story reprint collection - some of the stories (The Lady of Situations, brrrrr) and the title (Never Seen By Waking Eyes, brrrrr again) were familiar, others were fresh.
All but one I read and enjoyed first up. I bounced off one but I'm blanking on the title - and only bouncing off one is way better than my average for most anthologies.
