This books is a fairly recent release by the author of the excellent Mars trilogy and alternate history novel The Years of Rice and Salt. I requested it from the local library rather than buying it because Kim Stanley Robinson has also released several other books that I just couldn't get into, but this one is definitely on my future purchase list.
The storyline follows the lives of several characters who are all loosely connected by friendship, work or marriage to one another. The one thing they all have in common is they work in different fields of scientific endeavour and are growing increasingly aware of the threat of climate change and the wider worlds obliviousness to it.
Reading the book I found it hard to put down as it gradually works towards a climax given extra meaning by the situation in New Orleans at the moment.
Well written, with characters you really sympathise with, this book moves at a different pace to most other novels. I rate it 8/10.
