Well I'm mildly concerned anyway...

I had lunch with the local CALM Officer for Toolibin Lake today (a major RAMSAR site on the border of Wickepin and Narrogin) and if the rain keeps up Toolibin Lake will start to fill with water in the next three days. All the lakes further up the lake chain have now filled bar the last one upstream.

What makes this significant is that Toolibin last filled in 1983, where in the first half of the century the lake was a permanent body of water and wetland.
Ravensthorp Lake which has been empty for a similiar amount of time filled last month after a storm burst over its catchment, combined with the wet season we are having (so far anyway). A bare month later Blue Billed Ducks, Pink Eared Ducks and Black Swans are breeding on the lake, after not being seen in the region for decades. All good news for the likelyhood of Toolibins bird population returning for a few years anyway (until the water drys up again).
