As of yesterday morning, Transperth staff and guards have been instructed that bikes are banned from the Perth Underground station at all times.
Note that there is NO SIGNAGE to indicate this.
Please contact Transperth and/or the Minister to protest this rather closed-minded policy, and please offer your sympathy to the stafff and guards - who are likewise confused and disappointed by this.
If you wish to transfer from a Nothern line train, you must do so at Leederville or Esplanade, and then proceed to Perth Central. So what happens to bikes that disembark at Perth by accident or unknowingly is unclear.
Further information: The Transperth Journey planner does not know about it, either: example
I have just had a 1/2 hour or so conversation with Jim Krynen, the Cycling Ambassador at the PTA, and I have some news and clarifications on this.
Firstly, please lodge your complaints with Transperth and the PTA, and mention how it impacts you specifically. As with all such things, be polite but firm in your language. Every letter, form, and e-mail is ammunition in the fight to get this fixed.
Secondly, the official policy is that (subject to standard peak rules) bikes already on a train are allowed to pass through the Underground station.
Third, the matter has been raised, and is being discussed.
Jim is very sympathetic, but needs our support in order to change things.
Sounds like the fun and games around the new train lines are neither fun nor games.
